Mick Avory

Drums. Vocals on Dedicated Follower Of Fashion

For most fans Mick Avory is the definitive Kinks drummer! Mick joined The Kinks (at that time still known as The Ravens) in January 1964 and remained with the band through to July 1984.

The first hit album to feature his drumming was “Kinda Kinks” although his most brilliant moments would come on the albums “Village Green Preservation Society” and “Arthur”. His last recorded performance was on “Word of Mouth”, where he was featured on three tracks.

Since leaving The Kinks Mick has been a member of Shut Up Frank (featuring Dave Clarke, Noel Redding, Jim Leverton, Richard Simmons and Dave Rowberry) - two 5-track CDs, 1 Vinyl LP and 1 live CD from the Cheltenham Racetrack came out on Mouse Records. Also tours of Sweden, Norway and New Zealand.

Mick also played with The Class of 64 (with Chip Hawkes and Eric Haydock), The 60s Allstars, Brian Knight, Legends Of The Sixties and has been a permanent feature of the Kast Off Kinks since
1994

Dave Clarke

Lead guitar, lead vocals

Dave started playing piano at 4 and guitar at 9. His first record in 1963 (at the age of 15) was produced by Luigi Creatore at New York’s Roulette Records. Often confused with his DC5 namesake, his 1971 solo album “Pale Horse” saw him temporarily renamed as Dave Carlsen. The album featured Keith Moon and Noel Redding. Also auditioned for David Bowie at the Lyceum in 1971 but didn’t go on the US Ziggy Stardust Tour.

Dave formed The Noel Redding Band with Noel, Les Sampson and Eric Bell – after false starts with Pete Kircher, Micky Gee and Mick Taylor - two singles, two albums on RCA and four major US tours. Another album was eventually released later on Dave’s own Mouse Record label. He then formed White Line with Jimmy McCulloch and his brother Jack, 2 singles and one album. Dave met Carl Wilson and Bruce Johnson in London in 1977 and went to California on the Beach Boys payroll. He formed a band in Los Angeles with members of Spirit, JoJo Gunne and The Undisputed Truth - all Dave’s songs, some of which were later released on his second solo album under the name The Dream Machine. Jimmy McCulloch instigated another new LA band featuring Jim, Dave, Carl Wilson and Terry Kath (Chicago). Sadly Terry died and so, prematurely, did the band. Songwriter throughout for Southern Music, ATV Music, Screen Gems and Heath-Levy.

Dave has been a member of the Kast Off Kinks since the beginning in 1994.

Mark Haley

Keyboards, Vocals

Mark Haley was born in Portsmouth, England into a musical family and learnt classical piano at the age of 5. He swiftly discovered Top Of The Pops and recalls watching the Kinks performing Apeman.

He began playing in bands while still at school then went straight into the music business after taking his exams.  Best known for his 5 year stint as keyboardist with the Kinks, Mark's first lucky break came when invited to record and tour with the legendary Billy Fury which opened the door to a succession of opportunities with many established artists.  His live gig resume includes touring with, amongst others, Bert Weedon, Eden Kane, PJ Proby, Denny Laine, Jet Harris, Billie Davis, and, most notably, on the Monkees hugely successful reunion tours (which was where Mark was 'spotted' by the Kinks lighting engineer James 'Desperate' Dan).

Mark was also active on the recording session circuit during the 80's and can be heard providing the Drive My Car piano part on the # 1 Stars On 45 hit.  He also has the distinction of co-writing the song Don't Answer (with Junior Campbell), one of the very few sung by Hank Marvin.

In 1989, when Ian Gibbons left the band Mark joined the Kinks as keyboard player.

At the turn of the Millennium, Mark accepted an offer to join 70's chart toppers the Rubettes with whom he has toured constantly ever since for huge crowds on the nostalgia circuit all over Europe... occasionally bumping into Mick Avory (at the London Palladium) and Jim Rodford (a couple of times in Germany).

Having joined the Kast Off Kinks at several Kinks Konventions Mark became a permanent member of the Kast Off Kinks in 2019.

Mike Steed

Bass, vocals

Mike first shot to prominence in the music world when he landed the gig with English goth rockers Flesh For Lulu in the 1980's. The band gained a good footing in the USA with tours there and chart successes borne out of songs featured in John Hughes movies Uncle Buck and Some Kind Of Wonderful.

Mike's career has coincided frequently throughout the nineties and noughties with that of longtime friend Ian Gibbons : Love Affair, Chip Hawkes Tremeloes, Elvis da Costa and the Impostors (alongside Gypie Mayo), and even the much-banned and sadly missed Judge Dread.

Steedy and Bob Henrit have also teamed up many times since 2006 : Chip Hawkes crops up again here, and also a rip roaring widdly diddly diddly Irish band called Backa Beyond which had weekly residences in Soho and the old O'Neills in Muswell Hill.

After the sad passing of Jim Rodford in 2018 Mike was reunited with Bob again, playing for Russ Ballard, which led to spin-offs backing Mike Berry and Chris Andrews, and 2 stints as an honorary Roulette. In 2019 the Henrit/Steed alliance guested with cult US surf rockers The Malibooz at their 3 nights at The Cavern, and even blagged a rendition of Blue Suede Shoes with The Quarrymen.

Mike has racked up many other musical credits away from his Kinks connections, with various 60s/70s artists. He had 6 very happy years in The Marmalade. There have been extended stints in The Rubettes and The Pacemakers, and short touring spells for Mike Pender, PJ Proby, Dave Berry and Herman's Hermits.

In 2013/14, when Jim Rodford was away with the Zombies and Nobby Dalton was having a bit of knee/hip surgery, Mike did enjoy 3 engagements with the KOKs. He calls them the BBC sessions. Bognor, Belgium and Cambridge
